Blog in the time of Covid
For those of you who do not know me I am a woman of a certain age who has had many differing careers. Not that this has anything to do with 'in the time Covid' except I wonder if many careers and a long and relatively healthy life lead to resilience. I am thinking the Covid virus pandemic or the great lockdown is really just a blimp in my radar. I do miss the future events 'hooks' that I can no longer place in my yearly calendar. I have no travel to begin to prepare for or no trips to see the grandchildren scheduled until further notice. So the future does stretch out with rather a straight line. But it is calming in many ways.
As an artist I keenly felt the cancellation of exhibitions and events that my artwork would have been shown. I find getting ready to exhibit exciting and actually love the lead up to it all. Part of my personality flaw is that I like to be prepared and so I always start working towards a show early. In this instance when the SeeChange Winter Festival in Jervis Bay NSW where I was going to exhibit was cancelled and I had this body of work all dressed up with nowhere to go. It was an installation of textile pieces which was looking at the recovery of the bush around the Shoalhaven after the tragic bushfire in January.
But as the saying goes one door closes and another opens and I am now going to exhibit this body of work at the Embroiders Guild of NSW in Sydney next July. I also made a small movie clip of these textiles in the landscape and this can be found here. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1dHQ_rp5GCw5j0rXgv-hY0ql195siZHNm/view?usp=sharing
I updated my website in the past week with the art work that I have been doing over the last eight months. I am also thinking of adding a page with my photography from the paradise that is Jervis Bay. My photos of the recovering bush can be found on my web site.
