Farewell 2023

The end of the year fast approaches.  I feel so lucky to live where I live and to be able to share the season with friends. We whinge about the politics and the rising prices and the weather but it really does not impact seriously upon my day-to-day life.  Yes, one could say the world is in chaos and with so many people impacted by the wars in Palestine and Ukraine. It makes me so sad.  The climate is changing and little seems to be happening but we can all try to do our bit.  I feel a bit like Sandra Bullock’s character in the movie, Miss Congeniality where she finishes it with ‘Oh and I wish for world peace’.

But back to my art. Here is more on the what and why. My practice as an artist is activated by my connection to place, to the environment, and to natural processes evident with the passage of time. My intention is not to represent the landscape, rather it is to capture and communicate her lived experience of being in it.

It is an enduring preoccupation in my practice to celebrate the rhythm and flow of nature, the effects of the passage of time, the beauty of patterns formed by erosion. These cycles of growth and decay are a reminder of the fragility of our environment and the effects we have on it.

My next exhibition is scheduled for next year. It will be at M16 art Space In Canberra. Opening on 21 March 2024. I am using a limited colour palette in my artwork exploring tonal changes. I will have works in charcoal showing a layering of different procedures.  There are also textiles using recycled cloths, which are over dyed, worn and ripped and then stitched.
